Style Types of Carpet

Knowledge isn't just power; it's the key to personalizing your space.  The vast world of carpet
styles, textures, and colors can seem overwhelming, but it's actually an exciting world of possibilities! Ready to find the carpet that feels like home? Get to know the six most common carpet style types: textured, saxony/plush, frieze, cable, loop, and cut & loop.

TEXTURED: IF YOU KNOW YOU WANT CASUAL

This is a very popular cut pile carpet with alternating twists of yarn, creating a two-tone appearance. The textured surface of this carpet does a great job of hiding footprints and vacuum marks, creating a more casual atmosphere in the room. Think relaxed living rooms or cozy family spaces. Textured carpets are great for all areas of the home, ideal for today’s active families, and available in a wide range of prices.

SAXONY: FOR THE PLUSH LOOK AND FEEL

For a more formal, traditional, and elegant look, consider the beautiful saxony. Like a perfectly manicured lawn, this style has a smooth, soft, velvet plush look and a luxurious feel. Each yarn has a uniform twist and finish, making this carpet the perfect solution for a master bedroom, dining room, or formal living room. Beware of putting this style in high-traffic areas as it will show footprints and vacuum marks.

FRIEZE: STRONG AND ACTIVE

A frieze carpet may be the way to go for an active area. This is a cut pile style that has a very high twist level, meaning each strand of yarn is twisted so tightly that they actually curl over at the end. This creates a textured surface with a knobby appearance and a carpet of high durability and very good wearability. These carpets are not just great performers in high-traffic areas, they can go anywhere in your home, giving you the confidence in their longevity. They also hide footprints and are available in various pile heights that create a variety of different looks, allowing you to personalize your space with ease.

CABLE: SUPER COMFY

Think of a thick, cozy cable-knit sweater for your floor. Cable carpet exudes warmth and comfort. Its thick, indulgent fibers feel heavenly underfoot, perfect for pampering your toes in a bedroom or a luxurious lounge area. However, keep in mind that this style is better suited for rooms without a lot of activity. It can matte and crush with heavy foot traffic, so it is not recommended for stairs, hallways, and other busy areas in your home.

LOOP: WHEN THE FOCUS IS ON ACTIVITY

Looped carpet is the workhorse of flooring – it's built to withstand heavy use while resisting stains. It's a fantastic choice for casual, active family rooms and comes in solid colors, Berber fleck, and patterns with varying levels of loops. This carpet hides traffic patterns well, but this style will make seams more apparent, and its backing can be visible on stairs. Still, this is a great all-purpose carpet, a long-lasting performer, and very popular in homes around Columbus Ohio.

CUT & LOOP: PATTERNED TO STAND UP TO LIVING

Imagine an abstract painting on your floor. Cut-and-loop carpet blends both textures, creating patterns and a sense of depth. It combines loops' wear-and-tear resilience with the cut fibers' visual flair, perfect for adding personality while maintaining practicality. This style is also referred to as patterned carpet. Like looped styles, these carpets are low profile and thus perform well. However, sometimes, their seams will be visible. Cut & loop carpets are fashionable today; they’re used in casual and traditional rooms and available in many patterns, including fun geometrics and formal botanicals
